2019 Wnding Down

I'm excited because I am going to make it to reading 52 books this year.  I know many others read lots more, but I'm proud of myself and enjoyed every single word.

I have come to grips with something awful.  There comes a time in our lives when we won't be able to travel anymore due to age and health.  So I'm half way there.  I'll never get to Europe, or anywhere like that.  Bob said things would be too hard on me, walking and standing and waiting, so it's over and those dreams can go in the circular file.  We were invited to go to the Rose Bowl with good friends.  A complete awesome package and it cost a lot and Bob said I wouldn't be able to handle it.  So we had to say no.  I've decided to accept this and will tell Pat & Emma too that I can never go to Europe.  My stomach has an empty spot in it, along with my heart and brain.

and now I have this ... geesh, what next?  LOL

What Is A Cross Over Toe?

A cross over toe describes a condition where a toe(s) become buckled, contracted or crooked – then literally crossed over another toe.  The 2nd toe is, by far, the most common to cross over toe, though any toe could be involved.  The 2nd toe will cross over the big toe, and this can happen with bunion problems.  In short, a cross over toe occurs from damage to ligaments supporting a toe, causing a muscle imbalance – leading to slow dislocation and crossing over of the toe.

Email I sent to Sarah, Greg & Raina before we celebrated Christmas:

Hi Guys,

So that I don't have to blab to all of you out loud, I'm just going to write this email and be done with it.  You know me, always the annual speech before Christmas.

First of all, any gifts that you don't want to take home with you is fine, no matter what Dad says.  We will get your things to you sometime in the future.

Next, remember that when you married I always told you that Christmas is celebrated differently in everyone's family.  Please remember this and embrace your spouse's family celebration and share this with your children when they are grown.  Ours is crazy but it's ours, so try to love it.

There may be some gifts that you or your children really don't want or already have, etc. etc.  Please respect the givers and if it's a gift card at a store that's not your shopping choice, possibly you or your children could order something online that's fun or needed.  I must interject here that Uncle Ed Roberts has shopped a little for a couple of the kids, and the gift may not be age appropriate.  There's always the possibility that they could trade with a cousin the next day.

Thanks for listening and I love you allEmoji.

Major extended family accomplishments these last 8 months.

  • Bob and I Went to Aunt Barbara Shommer's 100 year birthday lunch at a restaurant in Fredonia. Saw many cousins and their spouses as well as Gerald and Virginia too.  Aunt Barbara looked awesome and beautiful but she frustrated herself by not being able to recognize many of us.
  • Pat & I Visited with Judi Kelroy (Jud & Marie's daughter) and her husband Dick.  Had a great chat at Bill's Piza #2.  Lots of laughs and constant talking.  We've seen Judi in the past 20 years a few times.  Judi and Dick were traveling in their large motor home with their  dog and visiting many people.
  • Pat & I Visited with Kathy Kuester Fitch (Marion's daughter).  It has been over 40 years since we've seen her, so all of us have aged.  Had lunch at Someplace Else in Elkhorn where Kathy has moved to recently.  Awkward slightly, gentle catching up at first, and then wow, she gave us some scoops that shocked us.  But we do not think she is lying.  She didn't say much about some things which could be negatives in her life. I said maybe we could meet again in 6 months or so.  She had 2 knee replacements, a hip replacement, walks with a cane and is now hanging out with an old high school boyfriend Dave Chamberlin.
  • We now have a folder of John Dorfler photos that we'd like to give to Mike Dorfler, somehow.  To be continued...
Time to move on to 2020 now
